History – Growth of the India Business and Evolution into a Global Production Hub Start of the CRM Business in India

Hitachi Channel Solutions entered the Indian market in earnest in 2010 with the sale of CRMs and, in 2014, launched the first cash recycling operations for ATMs in India. The company has worked to promote the adoption of CRMs and has led the market ever since.

Establishing a Production Base in India

At the time the production base was established, India’s ATM market—combining cash dispensers (CDs) and CRMs—had approximately 200,000 units in operation, making it one of the largest in Asia and showing strong growth potential. However, bank branches and ATMs were concentrated in urban areas, and the development of financial infrastructure in rural regions was a major challenge. To address this, the Reserve Bank of India, the country’s central bank, was promoting financial inclusion policies.

Meanwhile, the Indian government was advancing its “Make in India” initiative, a policy aimed at fostering manufacturing, driving high economic growth, and creating employment, which encouraged the establishment of production facilities.

Against this backdrop, a production company, Hitachi Terminal Solutions India was established in India in October 2015, and production began about eight months later, in June 2016

Relocation and Expansion to a New Plant in India

In 2023, a new plant was constructed near Bengaluru, India, covering approximately 10,000 square meters and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. Operations were relocated to this site, the workforce was strengthened through new hires, and production capacity was tripled from the previous 1,000 units per month to 3,000 units. All core components of CRMs produced at the new plant are sourced within India, and major modules are assembled on a highly controlled, integrated production line, achieving a high level of localization. As the first ATM manufacturer in India to obtain Localization Class 1 (localization rate of 50% or more), the company has also secured a competitive advantage in government bank bidding projects.

Over 50,000 CRMs Shipped Worldwide

Hitachi Terminal Solutions India has expanded production over the past decade since its establishment, serving not only the Indian market but also Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. In July 2025, cumulative shipments of CRMs surpassed 50,000 units. As a pioneer of CRMs in India, the company has strengthened its production system to increase output for the domestic market while expanding exports globally. These efforts contribute to the “Make in India” policy vision of positioning India as a global manufacturing hub.

Looking Ahead to the Next Decade

In October 2025, a 10th anniversary celebration event was held at the new plant. Around 20 guests and approximately 100 employees attended, marking the occasion in grand style and pledging mutual growth for both the company and its people in the decade to come.

Moving forward, in addition to further promoting the adoption of CRMs, we will contribute to financial inclusion in India through initiatives such as introducing Android based CRM in rural areas. Furthermore, as a global production hub, we will continue to support the market expansion and growth of the Hitachi Channel Solutions Group.
